Publication Note: Late 1855 edition. The Arkansas map has population tables; the New Jersey map is undated; the California map has Nebraska Territory, Kansas, and the Gadsden Purchase; and Minnesota is dated 1855. This is the first edition to have Charles Desilver as publisher. There is a "mid" 1855 edition that is the same as the early 1855 except for the Texas map which is dated 1855 and the Minnesota map, dated 1854. Full color maps. Covers are half leather marbled paper covered boards with "Mitchell's Universal Atlas" stamped on front label in gilt.
