Pub Note:
Climatic atlas of Iran by Dānishgāh-i Tihrān. Published in Tehran by the University of Iran, Institute of Geography in 1965. Bound in board covered with turquoise cloth. With gilt title in both English and Farsi on front cover. Volume includes a title page, dedication, explanatory text, introduction and table of contents, as well as 217 maps and 12 diagrams. Each text in English is followed by a version in Farsi, and much of the text on the maps and diagrams includes Farsi translations. The maps feature aspects of the climate such as precipitation, temperature, clear skies, cloudiness, thunderstorms, dust storms, humidity, and sea level pressure. The maps delineate these aspects of the climate according to both annual and monthly metrics. The atlas also includes a map of physical geography in Iran and a map showing the locations of meteorological stations used to collect the data it represents. In addition, a table lists latitude, longitude, height above sea level, and period of time for each of those meteorological stations. The diagrams show wind in the cities of Tehran, Ābādān, and Zāhedān, according to both annual and monthly metrics. It is a beautiful, highly detailed work of documentation.
