"Very rare map of Bolivia, dated 1920. Chromolithograph, 76 x 61 cm, excellent condition. It shows the Bolivian territory on its borders prior to the Chaco War (1937), which led to the loss of the northern Chaco. Little is known about this map and its author, Javier Valdez Reinoso. It has not been studied by Bolivian university students, nor does it seem to be present in the country's archives. We have only been able to locate one other copy in the world: in the library of the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (which is in very poor condition, with important missing items). We have obtained our copy in Barcelona, where said map was printed. The fact that these two copies appeared in Catalonia, and that they are not found in Bolivia, suggests that, for political and/or economic reasons, this map never reached La Paz, its destination. It is worth mentioning that the Arnó Hermanos bookstore and publishing house were founded by Francisco and Esteban Arnó, from Mataró, near Barcelona, which surely explains the printing of the map in this city.
