"Important map of Santa Fe del Rosario, drawn by Isidro Quiroga in 1909 and reproduced the following year by the Jacobo Peuser publishing house; large-format chromolithograph (74 x 59 cm) in overall good condition. It is adorned with the oval-shaped coat of arms of the city, centered on the Paraná River with ships sailing, and featuring the Argentine flag. The map depicts the city with its recent changes, particularly its longitudinal structure based on two main avenues: Rosario and Arijón, extending from the northern arm of the stream to Avenida San Martín. Along Camino Ayacucho, it is divided into two sectors of similar size. Additionally, the eastern zone’s composition centers around the intersection of Avenida Rosario and Avenida Schiffner (now Castro Barros), where the plaza is located. In the southern part of the city appears the Barrio Saladillo and the famous “public baths” in the waters of the Saladillo river, founded by entrepreneur Manuel Arijón. Beyond the city limits, the Villa Gobernador Gálvez, now part of Greater Rosario, also appears; it was then mainly home to Spanish and Italian migrants. A legend with 49 points identifies Rosario’s main buildings, including the National Customs House, the National Bank, foreign bank branches, railway stations, markets, theaters, hospitals, and more. The parishes are also listed but somewhere in the legend’s final section. At the bottom of the lithograph, several details are listed under the title "References": the latitude, longitude, and altitude of Rosario, its average temperature (17.14°C), and its total area (136 km², compared to the current 179 km²). Our copy was sold in a booklet titled "The Only Large Map of the Municipality of Rosario," published by Jacobo Peuser in 1911. We have not been able to locate another copy of this booklet in public or private collections. On the back, there is a curious handwritten note: “This edition is the most complete and, although it is expensive, it is worth it,” with an illegible signature. The map has significant conservation defects in the upper left quarter, as well as in the first horizontal fold. The fourth vertical fold also shows several defects, including oxidation and very small missing parts. Additionally, there are two significant oxidation points in the lower left part. The rest of the map is in excellent overall condition. As a whole, the map, which has been professionally restored, is in good condition." (Bolivar Old Prints, 2024)
