Pub Note:
Dates range from 1845-1847. As head of the lithographic section of the Militaergeographisches Institute in Vienna, Joseph Scheda is noted to have brought lithography to a new level of perfection, to a point where it actually rivaled the use of copper engraving. Another point of perfection was the institute's remarkable depiction of 3-D terrain by hachures. They also developed the heliogravure process. The large map cataloged here was done in 25 sheets numbered left-to-right, top-to-bottom. Each sheet is cut into 6 panels and mounted on linen to facilitate folding. The map sheets were published privately.
