Pub Note:
Relief shown by contours and shading. Unbound in portfolio. Accompanied by hardbound text: xii, 303, [1] p. : tables ; 31 cm. Also accompanied by softbound text: Kurze Erläuterung zu J. Schmidt's Mondcharte, in 25 Sectionen, Berlin : In Commission bei D. Reiner, 1878 : 19, [1] p. ; 30 cm. When the 25 sheets are assembled they make the largest map of the moon published in the 19th century. Schmidt continued the work of Wilhelm Gotthelf Lohrmann whose map of the moon was published in 1824 with only four sections completed (see our 11245.000). Lohrmann finished the other sections but they went unpublished until Schmidt completed the work and published it in 1878.
