Pub Note:
Maps in outline color. First Edition of the earliest atlas issued by this prolific mapmaker, devoted to the counties of South Britain and Wales. "In his influence on the cartography of Great Britain Cary may be ranked with Saxton and with Ogilby, and in one respect he had an advantage over them Cary was himself an engraver The maps of Cary are usually marked by the excellence of their workmanship as well as by a standard of accuracy far in advance of that attained in England before his time; he probably deserves the high praise bestowed on him by Sir George Fordham, as being the founder of the modern English school of cartography." (Chubb, p. xvi)
