Extremely rare book and maps, with 17 lithographed maps and plans, produced for private circulation by the Russian Imperial Mineralogical Society of St. Petersburg (Russian Mineralogical Society) It is closely related to an edition of the Transactions of the "Schriften Der in St. Petersburg Gestifteten Russisch-Kaiserlichen Gesellschaft Fur Die Gesammte Mineralogie" volume 1, 2 parts, St. Petersburg 1842. Includes early geological, mineralogical and geodetic exploration of Russia. The book showcases its divers scientific interest and its close connection to the scientists both foreign and domestic. The plates represent different subjects lithographed by J.P. Huberst in St. Petersburg or by Yastrebitoff and Co, of Moscow. 13 plates are in Russian and German, 4 plates are in Russian. The geological maps are especially important for being the earliest printed Russian geologic maps. Bound in quarter dark green calf and dark blue marbled boards, with Russia title in gilt on spine.
