Uncolored pictorial map (as issued, see our hand colored copy, presumably colored by an owner). Showing the United States from the point of view of Californian, with the Sun smiling on a disproportionately large California while the rest of the country is compressed into a largely undifferentiated spiders web beneath dark rain clouds. Throughout the state, California is also depicted as a cornucopia of plenty, teaming with industry, agriculture, recreational activity, wild life and natural wonders. Shows landmarks such as Spanish Colonial missions, the Rose Bowl, the Bakersfield oil wells and the state capital building. An airplane in the sky bearing the slogan well soon be there! approaches the state line along with a train, a bus and cars, while railroad cars carrying California produce head east. Chase created this highly distorted view of the United States as perceived by Californians. One-third the size of the rest of the country, the state is perpetually drenched by the sun. Relief shown pictorially. Signed lower left in pencil: Ernest Dudley Chase.
