Note:
Date estimated from data. Includes table of 220 California precipitation stations, listing the period of record (typically about 15 years) and the mean annual rainfall (precipitation). Hall's note indicates that later data and his one erratum, would lead to a few changes in the map. His note also indicates that the southern Sierra is wetter than his map shows - a correct conclusion. Comparison with the 1979 California Water Atlas map entitled, Mean Annual Precipitation, List No. 5788.008 in the David Rumsey Collection, shows that the pattern of precipitation shown by Hall is correct; however, some of the long-term (based on approximately a 100-year period of record) high-end values should be somewhat greater than Hall shows. Noteworthy differences are that the northwest coastal areas and central coast area of the Santa Lucia Mountains are considerably wetter than Hall indicates. In summary, a remarkably accurate map. Small hole in paper, near Red Bluff. Map scanned from the collection of the Water Resources Center Archives, University of California Library, call number mG409162 B1. In color. Mounted on linen.
