Context: Llamas are of great importance in the Andean region both as beasts of burden and sources of meat. This vessel depicts a resting llama loaded with two sacks of goods. The rope which passes through one pierced ear served to guide the animal in a caravan.The llama's legs, folded under his body, are carefully modeled on the underside of the vessel.
