Translation: PREFACE In the present edition of the mining-industrial map of southern Russia, the boundaries of concessions, the locations of mines and factories, the areas of distribution of bituminous and anthracite coal, evaporated and rock salt, iron and manganese ores are marked. The topographic base of the mining-industrial map, featuring the Krivoy Rog iron ore region and the surroundings of Ekaterinoslav, was outlined using 3-verst maps issued by the Military-Topographic Department of the General Staff; the topographic base for the Nikopol manganese and Kerch iron ore regions was outlined using 10-verst maps of the same edition. The areas of distribution of bituminous and anthracite coal are based on data by Prof. L.I. Lutygin, evaporated and rock salt by Prof. N.N. Yakovlev, Krivoy Rog iron ore by the maps of E.K. Fuchs, and the Nikopol manganese ore by data from the Geological Committee. The boundaries of the areas were outlined based on plans submitted by the mines; the following maps were also used for reference: Denisenko, Rubinstein, Regional O.V.D. and Slavyanoserbsk and Bakhmut Uyezds Zemstvos. Enterprises that did not submit plans by July 10, 1913, were marked on the map with circles based on the directions of persons previously assigned to the Donetsk basin. Note: In the attached lists, firms are indicated with red No. №, corresponding to the No. № of sites and mines marked on the map. Letters following the name of the enterprise indicate horizontal bands, and black numbers—vertical bands of the map sheet. To find any enterprise on the map, note its red № and the vertical and horizontal bands. Their intersection will show the location of the enterprise. After many years, following significant circumstances and well-known global events, many related blueprints by Mr. Johann Stridbeck have been published, some individually, some as part of the so-called war theaters in various tables for the curious world to observe at any time and place. The current owner of this publishing house has deemed it useful and appropriate to compile such scattered copper engravings into a work, to expand them significantly, and thus to serve the art-loving reader. This will result in a representation of 200 blueprints of the most notable places and their fortifications, the most renowned cities and fortresses, as well as famous seaports, well-guarded passes, fortified camps, and battle encampments, depicted as accurately as possible according to both their old and, as much as can be ascertained, their new fortifications, with most accompanied by a brief description. However, should any erroneous or questionable details arise, they would be addressed in the best manner possible, ensuring that no one suffers any disadvantage, whether due to mere oversight or lack of better sources. Any necessary corrections or improvements would be promptly made as required. Furthermore, this publisher already has another work in preparation, consisting of 200 delightful prospect views, mostly presenting blueprints as well as other remarkable locations. The publisher is determined, as long as God grants health and life, to continue this work annually with 20 additional pieces as supplements for those interested in acquiring them. Augsburg, Gabriel Bodenehr, created and published.

Dimensions are sheet size. "Ofen" (Latin: Buda) is located in a delightful and fertile region along the Danube, 32 miles from Vienna. It consists of three parts: the castle, the town, and the water fortress, where there was once a special Jewish quarter, which is now ruined. On the opposite bank of the Danube, at the far end, lies the city of Pest. In the year 1526, the Turkish Sultan Suleiman besieged the city of Ofen. After three hours of resistance, the German inhabitants were spared their lives, but the Hungarians, including men, women, and children, were massacred. In 1527, it was reclaimed by Archduke Ferdinand, but in 1529, Suleiman recaptured it and placed John Zápolya, Count of Zips and Woiwoden in Transylvania, who had been elected King of Hungary, under his protection.

Note
Dimensions are sheet size. Orsowa. It is a fortress on the Danube, on the Hungarian-Wallachian border, below Belgrade, consisting of three parts: one lies on the opposite side of the Danube, while the third is an island in the Danube, called Carolina. In 1688, after Belgrade was captured by the Christians, the Raizens (Serbs) in Wallachia, who had rebelled against the Turks, crossed over to Orsowa and destroyed everything inside. The following year, 1689, this place was abandoned, and the Szeklers occupied it. However, the Imperial troops recaptured it, though the French attacked unsuccessfully. In 1690, at the end of the year, the Turks took this place again through an agreement, according to which Colonel Wachtmeister of the Swedish regiment, along with his troops, was allowed to withdraw freely and was escorted to Transylvania. However, the Turks betrayed the commanders and imprisoned all of them, about 800 men, sparing only women and children. They were taken to Belgrade as prisoners of war, disarmed, and locked up in a blockhouse in iron chains. They were treated so badly that most died of hunger. The young men were forced to convert to Islam, while the women and children were sold into slavery after having everything taken from them. In 1697, the Hussars attempted to recapture the island of Orsowa, but they soon lost it again. This passage describes the tumultuous history of Orsova (now in Romania), particularly during the Ottoman-Habsburg wars, highlighting the conflicts, betrayals, and suffering during these power struggles.

Dimensions are sheet size. This historical map of Schweidnitz (Świdnica, Poland) provides a detailed view of the city's layout, fortifications, churches, and important buildings. Some key points: City Fortifications Multiple gates and towers (Grofsen Thor, Bögen Thor, Köpfen Thor, etc.), indicating the strategic military importance of Schweidnitz. The walls are reinforced with bastions, suggesting early modern defensive architecture. Religious & Civic Institutions Several churches (e.g., Church of Our Lady, St. Nicholas, Church of the Holy Cross), reflecting the city's strong religious influence. The courthouse (Das Richt haus) highlights its role as an administrative center. Urban Structure The city follows a medieval layout, with a dense grid of streets inside the walls. Hospitals, schools, and marketplaces are clearly marked, showing Schweidnitz’s role as a regional trade and cultural hub. Geographical Context The rivers and bridges suggest Schweidnitz was well-connected to trade routes. The rural surroundings indicate its importance in agriculture and regional commerce. Historical Significance of Schweidnitz (Świdnica): Schweidnitz was one of the most important Silesian cities during the medieval and early modern periods. It was a Ducal Capital of the Duchy of Schweidnitz-Jauer, later becoming part of the Habsburg Monarchy and then Prussia. The city was a major trade and manufacturing center, especially known for its beer brewing.
