Note Very detailed early map of Denver and vicinity, with four vignettes of buildings and views. Shows land ownership. Has a General Directory of Offices, Churches, Schools, etc. on the left side, with a separate listing on the right side of Hotels and Places of Amusement. Entered in 1878 and probably the first edition. Phillips lists an 1874 map with the same title but by Thayer and Swindler and with slightly different dimensions. Thayer issued an 1883 Denver map titled "The City of Denver." Folded into brown cloth covers 15x9.5 with purple label reading "Thayer's Map Of Denver. Price, $1.50." in gold print. Scarce.

Note Dated is estimated from Karrow. The same map appeared in Cram's Standard American Atlas (see our 1887 issue). The map is surrounded by large type hype for R.A. Tenney's map establishment. Tenney worked for Gaylord Watson in Chicago as Manager of Watson's Western Map Depot in 1874 (see Watson's 1874 County and Railroad Map of the United States). Map has both hand and printed color, full color by county.
