Note The five maps which accompany Pike's report are of great importance, especially the two maps of Louisiana which Wheat calls "maps of outstanding historic interest... beautifully drawn." Pike's map of New Spain was copied from Humboldt's manuscript map, although Humboldt did not publish his map until 1811. All maps uncolored and bound into the back of the book. Full leather covers with "Pike's Expeditions" imprinted on the spine.

This copy has interesting ms notations on the southern border with Mexico - the topography has been extended by an experienced hand. Signature of J.C. Fremont on the plate - "Official Map of the Territory of Arizona." One of the best maps of Arizona as a territory. Stamp of W.B. Walkup & Co. on verso - similar to W.H.'s copy which is mounted on linen. Walkup published the last edition of Froiseth's Utah map. Folded into textured dark brown cloth covers 21x11.5 stamped with "Official Map Of Arizona By E.A. Eckhoff And P. Riecker 1880" in gold.
