The first separately published map of Iowa. Not in Phillips or any other references. Karrow locates a copy at the Iowa Historical Society and lists it as the first map of Iowa. Shows the eastern part of the territory, with the sections shown, and the early towns being settled. Judson also issued a smaller scale map of Iowa and Wisconsin in the same year (Karrow 8-0630), and several maps of parts of Wisconsin, and towns in Wisconsin and Michigan. He also issued maps of Iowa City and Bloomington in 1839. Outline color by county. Folded into red leather covers 14x9 with "Iowa." stamped in gilt. Inside front cover has an advertisement for Doolittle and Munson. |
