Compared to the 1873 edition (see our #5144) just a few counties are added, primarily in Nebraska, Kansas, and Dakota. This map was issued frequently from 1864 to 1881, the latest issue listed in Karrow. The 1874 Colton General Atlas uses the upper half of this map to show the Northwestern States and Territories, while the States and Territories of the southwest are shown on several separate maps. The General Atlases of the period from 1864 to about 1872 use the upper and lower halves of this map to show the western States and Territories. Full color by county. Folded into stamped dark brown cloth covers 15.5x10 with "Colton's Map Of The States & Territories From The Mississippi River To The Pacific Ocean, &c., &c. G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co." in gilt. Prime meridians are greenwich and Washington D.C.Releif shown by hachures. |
