The map is unique for a railroad map in its huge size, large scale, elegance of drawing, and variety of information shown (houses, trails, rivers, turnpikes, lighthouses, harbors, hills, swamps, etc.).

Note Covers 13x8.5 are a tan card board with a printed label with and eagle and shield under which is the same title as above, with the addition of "Revised and Corrected. Published by J.W. Barber, New Haven, Ct." There is no date or maker on the map, although the geography indicates a date of circa 1845. There are tables of distances from New York and New Orleans. Barber also published histories of several northeastern states - see our copies of New York and Connecticut, both with maps of the states. Railroads, canals and steam boat routes are shown in color.
