The copyright date is 1848 and probably the first edition was issued then or in 1849. This is the largest scale pre Civil War state map of Arkansas that we have seen, and it is highly detailed in its showing of lands owned by the U.S., the state, private grants, Seminary lands, and Salt Spring lands. It is not listed in any of the standard references. Colton did not list it in his catalog, listing instead the D.F. Shall "Railroad & Township Map of Arkansas" (see our #4506). Map is full color by county, folded into light brown patterned cloth covers 16x10 with title "Langtree's New Sectional Map Of The Sate Of Arkansas Field And Dolley Little Rock" stamped in gilt. Scarce. Prime meridian is Washington D.C. |

Full color, with vignette title showing a large steam engine and, at the top, "Panoramic View of the Country between San Francisco and St. Louis." Population tables and tables of distances, listings of railroads. There is an inset map of Central America. This is one of the best pocket railroad maps of the period and one of the most decorative. Folded into stamped cloth covers 18x12 with "Watson's Rail-Road Map of the United States Mexico Etc." in gilt on the cover. This copy was sold in England by Edward Stanford and has his label on the case. Map is in four sheets, each dissected into 21 sections. Sheets have marbled end papers with labels reading "North East", "North West", "South East" and "South West", all fold into a brown cloth slip case 22.5x14.5 with a label reading "Mexico.
