A very attractive and detailed map of the state, probably produced by lithography, which is unusual for Rand McNally, because they normally used wax engraving for their maps. The coloring is also by hand, again not the norm for this firm. Rand McNally did a large scale map of California and Nevada (see our 1888 copy) which was wax engraved. Some uncredited, skillful cartographer produced this map of Montana for Rand McNally. Covers are dark brown cloth 17.5x11 with "Rand, McNally & Co's New Indexed Large Scale County And Township Map Of Montana." embossed in gold. prime meridians are Greenwich and Washington D.C. Relief shown by shadings. |
