Has Elwood Evans' manuscript notations on Gold Regions with the active mining areas colored in yellow. This is a very early delineation of the Gold discoveries on the Clearwater River and other areas of the Northwest. Evans dates his notations April 1, 1861. Eberstadt: "Evans went out to Puget Sound in 1853 as secretary to Governor Stevens, took and active interest in the political affairs of the Territory, and in 1865 became Acting Governor. His writings on the early history of the region are recognized as among the best of the contemporary accounts." See vol 12 of Pacific R.R. Survey for Stevens' mention of Evans. Without color. Shows Indian territories, rivers and explorers and dates of exploration. Relief shown by hachures ands form lines. |
