Date thought to be 1846. 3rd Edition, second state. Aroostoock County is expanded in the north. York county in New Brunswick has a new Military road and the rivers around it are more detailed than 1844 edition. Rivers are added and lengthened in Canadian counties along the St. Lawrence. Inside Maine we can't find changes other than the change of the Aroostoock county line. The 1846 date is estimated based on the changes in the map. With black top and bottom rollers. Full color by county. Relief shown by hachures. Tracts (roads or trails) and railroads shown.

The 29 inset maps include: Presque Isle; Houlton; Calais; City Of Bangor; Ellsworth; Eastport; Machias; Mountains In Maine - With Their Heights In Feet; Map Of The United States... ; Map Of The World; Belfast; Saco And Biddeford; Auburn And Lewiston; Rockland; Thomaston; Brunswick; Portland; Waldoboro; Bath; Farmington; Waterville; Augusta; Fryeburg; Paris Hill; Hallowell; Gardiner; Dover & Foxcroft; Skowhegan; and Wiscasset. Full color. Dissected into 36 sections, and edged and backed with linen. Map has a tan linen border and folds into end sheets of brown marbled paper then into a new tan cloth folding case 29x29 with "Maine Walling & Chace 1862" stamped in gilt on the spine. Relief shown with hachures.
