Taken from the Cabinet Map of the United States and Territories of 1868, showing the portion of that map west of Ohio, and like it, derived (almost copied) from the U.S. General Land Office Map of the United States of 1868. Several changes in the west: Wyoming is no longer "proposed," the Transcontinental Railroad is completed and many more stations on it are named, Southern Nevada has a new proposed Humboldt and Colorado Railroad and telegraph line, and more railroad development and topography is shown in Northeastern California. Full color. Folded into black cloth covers 15.5x10 with "Cabinet Map of the Western States and Territories." in gilt.

This is a wonderful piece that includes a large map of the state (exceeding the Peck and Messinger in size) with inset maps of Geology and Topography, profiles, population tables, list of forest trees, table of epochs, listing of mineral resources, description of climate, and a list of principal towns. This may be the only map that Blanchard made with Walling, and it is probably one of the few separate pocket maps made of a mid western state by Walling. First, and only edition. Full color. Map is folded into black cloth covers 15.5x10.5 with "Sectional Map Of Illinois Blanchard." in gilt.
