Note
240 Virgae = 5.1 cm. This map traces the route of the Schlei River from its mouth on the Baltic to the town of Arnis, Germany, in present day Schleswig-Holstein. This is one of the most unusual maps in the Atlas Maior. It shows the many fishing weirs that were on the river which were used to trap herring. The weirs are shown both on the river and at larger scale in 21 inset diagrams. The also show the names of the owners of fishing rights. Originally created by mapmaker Johannes Mejer in 1649, the Blaeu's acquired the plates and republished them in the Atlas Maior. Very few maps show fishing rights as this one does, making it somewhat unique.
