Note This is the early 1845 issue with Iowa Territory extending north of the later state borders, Michigan counties undeveloped in the northern peninsula, the copyright date still 1833, and the smaller ornamental borders of the 1841 issue. Later in the year Mitchell changed the map substantially (see our #4223). The John Arrowsmith delineation is used in the Great Basin. Insets include the United States, south part of Florida, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, north part of Maine, Rochester, Niagara Falls, Albany, Baltimore and Washington, and Charleston. Includes a population chart from the 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses including number of seamen and slaves. Chart clearly shows the states that have abolished slavery by 1830.
