A large two sheet map showing the settled portions of Kansas and the unsurveyed part west to the 101st parallel. First issued in 1865. This is an update and expansion, on the same scale of 8 miles to an inch, of the Ream/Halsall/Colton map of Kansas, 1857. The western portions of this map are cartographically "prospective," in that they show only the beginnings of survey and settlement that would come later. The railroad from Kansas City runs west to Salina. Full color by county. Map is folded into stamped dark brown cloth covers 16x11 with "New Sectional Map Of The State Of Kansas Published By G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co. New York." in gilt.
