Mullan/Freyhold map, titled "General Map of the North Pacific States and Territories Belonging to the United States and of British Columbia ... Exhibiting Mail Routes, Gold Mines ... Drawn by Edward Freyhold, T.E." Strange Owyhee depiction - shows Kearney River and the Jordan Creek flowing into the Owyhee and a road from "Star City" on the Humboldt (which is actually in Buena Vista Valley south of the Humboldt!) going north through the Owyhee to Boise. Map is very incorrect regarding northern Nevada and Southeastern Oregon. Further study needed. Explore the relationship to Williamson's map of 1866. Kearney River comes from the Dixon map of 1860, but Dixon puts the Kearney where Freyhold puts the Jordan. Much detail on the Owyhee Mines in the addenda. Bound with brown linen covered boards with title on the spine. |

One of the earliest, and most important government maps of the Great Salt Lake area. Wheat calls this map "a major production...for the Great Salt Lake itself the map was definitive...Scientific cartography for the Territory of Utah may be said to date from the appearance of this map." It is a stunning map, large in scope, and clearly shows the genius of Charles Preuss as a cartographer. Issued in a folder with the large Stansbury "Map of a Reconnoissance between Fort Leavenworth..." Bodies of water have light blue outline color. |

This is the Fremont/Preuss map of 1845, updated and enlarged, but only going west to the Great Salt Lake. Wheat: "the Stansbury expedition map (is) one of the most important of its decade." Wheat devotes seven pages to this map. It is a major production and is the culmination of the Fremont maps of 1843 and 1845, and the Abert map of 1846. Issued in a folder with the large Stansbury "Map of The Great Salt Lake and Adjacent Country.." With outline color. |

Charles Preuss was the cartographer. Map is without color. Book is bound with full leather with "Executive Documents 2d Sess. 28th Cong." on the spine in gold. |

This is the scarce Senate issue with four maps by "Baron" Egloffstein. Egloffstein used a unique engraving process to achieve a superb rendering of topographical features, he used the same technique in the map is drew for Macomb's Report (see our #2699). Of the maps in Ives's Report Wheat said "The two maps were drawn by F.W. Egloffstein...the first...is one of his best." Rare in this form with the two additional geological maps in color wash. These only appear in the Senate issue. They are the same as the two "normal" maps that appear in the House and Senate issue, but they have colors overlaid to show geological formations.
