Note
Extremely rare, unusual directory made up of drawn illustrations of the building street fronts and business establishments of every building on the blocks of the downtown area of San Francisco. Almost all of these buildings were destroyed by the fire of 1906. Published in 11 parts in 1894 and 1895, this copy is complete. The Rocq listing is for parts 4-11; the Norris copy had nine parts. Norris states that this directory is "Very Scarce and valuable." This copy belonged to noted San Francisco historian Margot Patterson Doss, with her signature and address on the front end paper. The illustrations of the buildings are very well done. A unique directory; most surviving copies have only nine of the eleven parts. Another directory was done for Oakland, California (Rocq 817). Cloth covered boards with "The Illustrated Directory, San Francisco" on cover.
