This is only the Southeastern quarter of Arrowsmith's later, slightly enlarged map of Asia issued in 1818. His earlier edition of Asia, issued in 1801 at a scale of 6,490,880 (see our 6907.000), was smaller and somewhat less detailed. The folded cover bears the signature of "Major Wyndham 67th Foot 1822" - likely the same Colonel Charles Wyndham who entered the army as Cornet in the 10th Light Dragoons, 1811. On the 20th December 1821 he was promoted to Major in the 67th Regiment of Foot. He served under Lord Wellington between 1812 and 1813 during the Peninsular campaign of the Napoleonic Wars. Apparently Wyndham traveled to India as part of his duties and this map was used in his journeys.
