Note:
1st edition was 1851, a reissue of Damerum's 1815 map (see our copy). The sixteen stars that surround the eagle in the cartouche stand for the sixteen states in the union when Damerum's plate was engraved by Peter Maverick in 1815, which plate has been reengraved to produce this map. Stebbins in 1859 produced a map that follows this plate closely (Thompson 180). Many changes have been made to the original plate to bring it up to date, particularly the delineation of railroads. We think the copper plate has also been transferred to lithographic stone, although it is hard to tell; it certainly would be strange to have a copper plate map produced at this late date. Map is full color, folded into dark brown cloth covers 15x10, and stamped with "Connecticut Including Eastern New York And New Jersey." in gilt.
