Estimated date. 2nd revised German edition of Smith's large map, here bound as an atlas. The inset map of North America is titled "Uebersichts-Karte von Nord Amerika von J. Calvin Smith..." (Karpinski lists this incorrectly as the title of the entire map, also incorrectly says 12 sheets instead of 16). The map has been redrawn onto lithographic plates with a very slight change of scale (smaller). The only German used is in the titles and the references. The map is undated - 1852 is estimated from the lack of Washington Territory (1853) and the presence of California, Utah and New Mexico. Karrow 1-1663 is the fourth edition. This German edition is rarer than the American editions by Smith and Colton. The first German edition of this atlas map (W.H.'s copy) has no title page and no obvious changes from the second edition. Full color.
